One of the best ways to fully experience the beauty of Cornwall’s countryside is to take a nostalgic trip on a Bodmin and Wenford railway steam locomotive train.

Running every day between the end of May and early October, each train performs a 13-mile round trip, giving you ample chance to take in the sights, sounds and smells of the region’s stunning natural backdrops.

Planning on booking a luxury food train? You will get to enjoy a three-course meal and access to a fully licensed bar, enabling you to sit back and relax while you see the sights.

Those hoping to celebrate a special occasion will be pleased to learn that trains can be booked for private functions, with a range of packages available to passengers.

If you are spending the festive season in Cornwall, there is even a Santa by Steam series at Bodmin and Wenford railway that is particularly popular with children.

Even family pets are catered for, with most trains allowing dogs and other animals onboard, as long as they are well behaved and sit on the floor of the carriage.

There is also ample space for both luggage and bicycles, should you require it.

To get the most out of a ride on Bodmin and Wenford railway’s steam locomotives, you can sign up for a driving and firing course.

Participants will be taught how the engines work through a series of theory and practical-based lessons, before being able to drive a train by themselves.

Aside from being a driver, you will also get to perform the role of a guard and a fireman, as well as receiving a certificate at the end of the day to show off to friends and family.
